Samsung is working on a new virtual reality headset

Samsung is working on a virtual reality headset more along the lines of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.Samsung's head of R&D for software and services Injong Rhee revealed the plans during a conference in San Francisco yesterday.

"We are working on wireless and dedicated VR devices, not necessarily working with our mobile phone,” Rhee said. Samsung's current product is the Gear VR which uses a compatible Samsung device to act as the display. Samsung is now apparently working on a standalone device.

It will however be some time before we see anything like this from the company. "VR is amazing, but the industry is still at its infancy," said Rhee. While we wait for that, the Gear 360 camera will be out this Friday, although a price has not been announced yet.
